Home for the Holidays

“I’ll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams.”

Although her memory is failing, my 99-year-old Aunt Jean remembers the lyrics of that vintage Christmas song made famous by Bing Crosby. To her and to all of us, it reflects a very deep desire to be home—welcomed, warmed, cherished and safe. And such is the privilege God has granted us, His daughters, females formed in His image—to be the heart of the home. C.S. Lewis made this profound observation:

“Homemaking is surely in reality the most important work in the world. What do ships, railways, mines, cars, government, etc., exist for except that people may be fed, warmed, and safe in their homes? The homemaker’s job is one for which all others exist.”

Our prayer for you this wonderful Christmas season is that God will bless and inspire you in making your home a place where there is room for the worship and celebration of the Christ child; where your family and friends find warmth and refreshment far from the noise of commercialism, and where there is welcome and inclusion for those who don’t yet know Him.
